Overview
Since I was a child, I was always exposed to computer games, seeing my brother played Doom, when we were suppose to read books. One of the game I remember enjoying very much is Heroes of Might and Magic 2. It got one of the best graphics (at that time) and my god, that EPIC music, really drove me down into this magical fantasy world. I use to play hot seat multilayer with my brother all the time. He used to beat my ass off, with his troops of black dragons blowing flames on my mighty Crusaders. Such a memorial time of my life.
I have been a true fan of this series ever since.

Not until last week, after I have almost forgotten that this series existed (due to the lack of news of the sequel), I stumbled upon an article stating that Ubisoft is developing a new sequel to the series, Might and Magic: Heroes 6.
I was shocked because after their latest installment, the Heroes 5, the situation didn’t look good. People reporting that the sales were lower than expected and Ubisoft might not renew the series. Also, their MightandMagic site was quiet like a graveyard for almost a year or 2.
Because of this, it reminds me of the memories i had with this game. Such an inspiration moments, and so I want to share my moment of inspiration with you guys.
What’s good about the series?
- Its fantasy rich history, with all sort of magical creatures from fairy to phoenix, from skeleton to dragons.
- I have to mention this again, the music are EPIC!
- Awesome 2D graphics
Series summary
Might and Magic is a large series, beginning from RPG-based games called Might and Magic 1 - 5 which are on DOS. Very revolutionary at that time, but nothing about these games struck my attention back then. The series started to be well known when New World Computing released a new twist to the series, Heroes of Might and Magic (actually developed from their previous game called King’s Bounty), a turn based strategy game, which, back then, are very revolutionary. After that, this turn based strategy game was expanded to more than 5 games in the Might and Magic series:
- Heroes of Might and Magic
- Heroes of Might and Magic 2 + Expansions
- Heroes of Might and Magic 3 + Expansions
- Heroes of Might and Magic 4 + Expansions
- Heroes of Might and Magic 5 + Expansions
- Heroes of Might and Magic 6 (just announced)
Even though the twist of the original Might and Magic series were very popular, the creator didn’t stop expanding the roots of the series, Might and Magic RPG-based games was developed concurrently with the Heroes series which expanded to more than 4 more series on the PC:
- Might and Magic 6: Mandate of Heaven
- Might and Magic 7: Blood of Honor
- Might and Magic 8: Day of the Destroyer
- Might and Magic 9
And they are mostly as successful as the Heroes series. The guy behind such a successful line of games is Jon Van Caneghem. Without him, I wouldn’t be as creative and as imaginative as I am now. I remember I was dreaming of living in such a world when I was young which I believe really drives my brain to thinking imaginatively.

Thanks to him again. Even though, right now, He doesn’t own any right of his series, I still think that without him, the series will never be the same again.
Alright after a long read, let’s dive into the series with a collection of clips sorted into each game. Let’s begin with Heroes of Might and Magic 1:
Heroes of Might and Magic I
Example of awesome music I was bragging about:
Heroes of Might and Magic 2
Another awesome soundtrack from Heroes 2 Series:
Heroes of Might and Magic 3
This, in my opinion is one of the best game in the Heroes series, the best of the best, and non of the new sequels have beaten the popularity of this game yet (in terms of the majority)
Awesome Music sample from the third installment
Heroes of Might and Magic 4
Even though the game could not beat it predecessors, the music are still EPIC
Heroes of Might and Magic 5
Nothing much about this newest sequel. It was developed by Nival Interactive and the first series developed under the roof of Ubisoft, the previous predecessors were developed under 3DO. The quality and the feel is totally different, I expecting a game that reminds me of the memory when I was playing this series as a kid, the other predecessors have done that successfully, but unfortunately not this one. Seems like a brand new game with a cliche story line.
Music was so so, in my opinion but some are good tunes as well:
The End of Part One
As you may have noticed, most of the good songs are usually associated with how evil each faction is, for example, Necropolis are guaranteed to have a great intense music. I haven’t realized that up until when I almost at the end of the post.
Anyhow, I really hope you guys are starting to like this series like I did a while ago. These games were very inspiring, even though the feel is kind of lost in the process of development, I still have High hopes for the new sequel, Heroes of Might and Magic 6. Today, I will end the post with the newest trailer from Ubisoft. Next time, I will post up some awesome musics from the Might and Magic original series. I believe the soundtrack from Might and Magic are beyond great, even better than the Heroes series. More intense, More variety, More EPIC! Stay tune for our next post.
